If a lab test for a rare cancer had a 77% false-positive rate (or higher), would we start the patient on chemotherapy based on that test alone? (The answer is unequivocally no.) Unfortunately that is exactly what happens when we diagnose schizoaffective disorder without comprehensive medical rule-outs. Prescribers start “treatment” for a diagnosis that was not earned through appropriate investigation.

Restore psychiatry to medicine.
